Exploiting Argument Mapping Techniques to Support Policy-Making

Abstract

ICTs provide a novel opportunity to engage the public in the creation of policy. Yet the public need encouragement, governments need considered feedback and both want sincere engagement. This paper argues that Computer Supported Argument Visualisation techniques have the potential to support both parties in the process of policymaking, and describes four experiments aimed at exploiting this potential.
